Queenstown Airport - Back of House Demolition
DECONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION
Queenstown Airport
Location
Queenstown
Completion Date
2025
Our Queenstown-based team have been engaged by Cook Brothers to undertake a combination of manual deconstruction and machine demolition works at Queenstown International Airport.
The project required our team to obtain temporary security clearances for airside access and entry to the back-of-house building scheduled for demolition. Our demolition work will facilitate future development of the airport.
Operating within the airport environment, we implemented rigorous environmental protocols to prevent any disruption to daily airport operations. Given the critical importance of preventing Foreign Object Damage (FOD) – which occurs when debris or objects in inappropriate airfield locations pose risks to equipment and personnel safety – we meticulously removed all internal gib and plywood linings by hand to eliminate any possibility of uncontrolled demolition debris.
After carefully separating the existing structure from the building designated for demolition, we deployed a 14-tonne excavator to complete the structural demolition phase.
We successfully salvaged the internal plywood wall linings, which were provided to Cook Brothers for reuse as construction hoarding. The roofing materials were processed as scrap metal for recycling, while the polystyrene from the floor slab was sent to Expol for recycling.
The project was successfully delivered on schedule for the Cook Brothers team.
