Tuakana Hostel Project Update 12
Week Ending 28.03.25
We’re pleased to announce the successful completion of all demolition work at the Tuakana Hostel project in Napier.
Throughout this project, our team collaborated closely with an archaeologist to carefully monitor for any taonga (Māori artifacts), kōiwi (human remains), or Māori archaeological sites that might be discovered during the work.
We successfully salvaged additional timber for the local iwi, Mana Ahuriri Trust, who performed a blessing ceremony before work commenced. The salvaged materials included valuable native timbers such as rimu, matai, totara, maire, and kauri, which were recovered from the bearers, studs, and floorboards.
Following the demolition phase, our team thoroughly cleared the site and applied hydroseed before completing our final disestablishment.
We extend our appreciation to the entire on-site team for their exceptional dedication and outstanding work throughout this project.
